The Introduction of the Sound Short

Walt Disney's 1928 short Plane Crazy was the first animation to feature sound, which revolutionized both animation and live action films. Disney co-directed with Ub Iwerks, a highly skilled and devoted animator who apparently "out produced other animators 2 to 1 drawing 700 frames a day on Plane Crazy" (ASIFA Animation Archive). Author Norman Klein describes Plane Crazy as having a more volumetric quality than Felix the Cat shorts that were out at the same time, paving the way for more believable movement that Disney had pushed for in the late 1920s.
